 Belgium is a small kingdom located in Western Europe bordered by the North Sea, the Netherlands (to the north), Germany and Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (to the east) and France (to the south). It is 30,528 square kilometer and with a population of approximately 10.4 million it is one of the most densely populated countries in Europe.
Belgium is a regionalized country consisting of Flanders (Northern part), the Walloon provinces (Southern part) and a small German speaking region(East) close to the German border. As a result there are three official languages and major part of the population speaks at least two, and often three or four languages.
Belgium is a member of the EU (European Union) and its capital, Brussels, is home town of many European institutions. It also joined the Euro zone.
Two major pilars of the Belgian economy are the diamant industry and the petrochemical industry located in the area surrounding the port of Antwerp which is the largest petrochemical center in Europe and worldwide the second only to Houston, Texas.
