Dangerous Goods Customer Advisory - Emergency Response Assistance Plans (ERAP) for Canada

Section 7.1 of the Transport Canada regulations indicate the full requirements and details for ERAPs (Emergency Response Assistance Plans)

http://www.tc.gc.ca/tdg/clear/part7.htm#sec71

In section 7.1 Transport Canada states the objective of an emergency response assistance plan is to ensure that there is immediately available a suitable response to emergency situations involving the dangerous goods for which the plan was created. Assistance from the plan holder may be in the form of telephone advice based on the information given by the personnel at the scene of an emergency or travel to the scene with specialized personnel and equipment.

A company or person, who offers for transport or imports a quantity of dangerous goods that have the same UN number and are contained in one or more packagings, must have an approved ERAP if the total quantity of dangerous goods exceeds the ERAP limit indicated in column 7 of schedule 1 of the Canadian Transportation of Dangerous Goods code.

OOCL has put together an Excel table that will assist in determining if an ERAP is required. The information in this file was taken from column 7 of schedule 1 of the Canadian Transportation of Dangerous Goods code. This file should be used in conjunction with the Canadian Transportation of Dangerous Goods code.

The weight limit noted is based on specific UN numbers and the total weight of the UN that has been loaded into a single ocean going shipping container.

Please be guided accordingly.
