Requirement of Important Export Code (IEC) for Nhava Sheva Shipments

Dear Customers,    

We would like to inform you that, as announced by Nhava Sheva Customs, with immediate effect, all shippers must provide the Import Export Code (IEC) of actual consignees on the Bill of Lading. This applies to all cargoes that are discharged at Nhava ShevaIEC Number is a unique 10 digit code required by exporters and importers for the purpose of import and export in India.  No exporter or importer is allowed to carry out any kind of trade activity without IEC Number.

In accordance with this, you are kindly requested to include the following when submitting Shipping Instructions: 

  • For NVOCC shipments, IEC Number of actual consignee should be put before actual consignee’s name under the Cargo Description. NVOCC’s IEC Number is not required.
  • If actual consignee is shown in the “consignee” column, IEC Number of consignee should be put before consignee’s name.
  • If actual consignee is shown in the “notify party” column, IEC Number of notify party should be put before notify party’s name.

In case shippers cannot provide actual consignees’ IEC Number on time, cargo clearance may not be allowed and shippers are liable for all customs penalties and costs incurred.
