OOCL understands that information technology is playing a vital role in the container transportation industry and has been a leader in the use and development of IT solutions for almost 10 years.

OOCL was one of the first in the industry to offer interactive e-commerce applications in 1993. Subsequently, customers have been able to perform online rate inquiries, book and track cargo, check sailing schedules and process B/L from the OOCL.com Website for many years.

In 1993, OOCL took the bold and innovative step to integrate the business processes of all OOCL offices, customers' shipments and financial information into one system. Our vision was to develop and install new technology and to introduce an integrated system with proactive capabilities that would revolutionize customer service and optimize our business operations. Our final goal was to create a system that would satisfy all of our customers' individual requirements.

OOCL's Integrated Regional Information System, known as IRIS-2, was launched in 1999. IRIS-2 became more than software; it became new company culture. IRIS-2 has changed the way we think and the way we do business.

OOCL was a finalist for the coveted Smithsonian Institute Award for Innovation in 1999 for the groundbreaking achievements with IRIS-2. Today, we continue to reap the rewards of this remarkable system.

Capitalizing on our lead in IT for the transportation industry, OOCL launched the online interactive product My OOCL Center in March 2009. My OOCL Center was designed to offer OOCL customers advanced capabilities, help lower their business costs, save time and offer total transparency and maximum control in their supply chain.

CargoSmart™ was introduced in October 2000, designed for customers who require multi-carrier solutions. CargoSmart™ is an independently-operated company with OOCL investing in the development of its solution platform in order to enhance customer-service capabilities and operational efficiency for all transportation partners.

CargoSmart™ was designed with customer and carrier efficiency in mind. As an open-software platform, it provides customers with the ability to manage their shipments with multiple carriers online while sharing information with their shipping associates. OOCL has five information technology (IT) development centers located in San Jose, Shanghai, Zhuhai, Manila and Hong Kong. These centers are dedicated to the development of unparalleled enterprise-scale business applications, with a customer focus; providing superior solutions. The centers also support the client/server IT network, the company-wide intranet and customer-friendly Internet and e-mail applications.
