This year’s “OOCL Green Week”, held in the first week of July, proved that OOCL is a truly innovative company, as well as a responsible corporate citizen!
OOCL colleagues in more than 21 regions participated in Green Week, including Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium and Netherlands, Cambodia, Europe, France, Germany, Hong Kong and South China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, North China, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, and US and Canada.
OOCL Green Week is aimed at promoting awareness about environmental care, and encourages colleagues to participate in meaningful activities in the areas surrounding their offices and in the communities in which they live.
Just some of the innovative ideas were a Green Auction in Hong Kong; re-usable chopsticks in Japan; using the Levington canteen’s vegetable waste for the compost heap in the UK (where staff also cycled to work!); river cleaning and planting bamboo in the Philippines, saving carbon emissions in the US, and donating to sea turtle conservation in Thailand.
Funds from the Green Auction were used to support OOCL’s membership of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Hong Kong, which contributes to marine conservation programs and community education on the environment.
