Update on precautionary measures taken by OOCL due to threat of radiation contamination to operations in Japan
OOCL services calling at the Ports of Tokyo, Yokohama and Nagoya
All services operated by OOCL are running normally at this time.
Precautionary measures
In response to the possible spreading of the radiation from Fukushima nuclear power station, OOCL has implemented the following precautionary measures to protect our crew members and to mitigate the risk of radiation spread from outbound vessels from Kanto ports.
All OOCL owned and chartered in vessels making calls in the Kanto ports have started to go through radiation scanning before departure from Kanto ports. The scanning is conducted by a professional body licensed by the Government of Japan and covers the crew, superstructures, open decks, and selected containers. Upon demonstration of safe levels of radiation at the completion of the scanning procedure, a certificate will be issued to indicate the safe status of the vessel.
Although we have received no notification from Japan or any importing countries so far to mandatorily scan for radioactive materials on containers and shipments, OOCL has taken proactive initiative in formulating precautionary measures in order to protect our crew members and at the same time to ensure that containers we deliver to our customers are within safety levels.
