During the nine years at OOCL, my exposure in trade, pricing and the commercial functions have helped me develop expertise and interest in finance, strategy and marketing in our industry. I find OOCL’s focus on growth, innovation and relentless pursuit to create value for our customers to be a challenge like no other, and I embrace the hours needed to think and problem-solve in order to make the right decisions. I have a special interest in finance, particularly from an investment perspective. The P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statements are good indication of not only the financial health of a company, but the health of its culture, people and management. These drivers determine the future long-term success of a company. But these drivers must be sustained for a lengthy period of time to be of value. OOCL is consistently in the top quartile on most financial measurements, including earnings growth, net margins and return on equity. It is very motivating and fortunate to work for such a customer-centric and well-managed company.
One of my most memorable experiences at OOCL was attending the International Executive Development Program (IEDP) in Hong Kong. The program is a rigorous intellectual and physical challenge, as well as a great opportunity to meet fellow colleagues from all over the world. IEDP is one example that demonstrates OOCL’s commitment to its people.
