The fifth workshop for the School-Company-Parent (SCP) Program was held on May 5 with the theme “My Career Plan”.
Our three Company Ambassadors (CAs), Donald Tse (SHP-IRIS-ISD-OOCLL/HKG), Edward Ma (SHP-IRIS-ISD-OOCLL/HKG) and Renwill Yang (CLP-IRIS-ISD-OOCLL/HKG) designed the rundown of this workshop and worked together with Doris Li (HR-CADM-OOCLL/HKG) and Heidi Chan (HR-CADM-OOCLL/HKG) from HR to host this workshop. They talked about how to write application letters and résumés, what traits employers look for in potential employees, and what the students should focus on to achieve their career goals. In addition, the students also learned the job interviewing and presentation skills. They were encouraged to do self-reflection from time to time so to understand themselves better; and to set goals to assert their career aspirations.
Students gathered in small groups to write cover letters and résumés to apply for a job. Two students were then interviewed by Doris and Heidi. By observing the interviewing process, students got to learn more about the possible questions that could come up in a job interview, and how they could prepare themselves for one.
As a refresher from the second workshop on “career search”, students were given some time to think through a few questions that helped them prepare for job interviews. They were also asked to write down their strengths and weaknesses, what types of jobs they would choose and how they would plan to achieve their career goals. Instead of focusing only on what jobs they want right after graduation, they were told to think about what they want to be in five years. This helped them develop their foresight in career planning.
The final workshop will be held on May 19 with a visit to a home for the mentally-challenged. Stay tuned for the next news on this meaningful volunteer work.
