Voice from Becky Yeung-HKIE graduate trainee
OOCL IT
Time flies. My 2-Years HKIE training is now complete. Looking at the training completion certificate and flipping through the training logbooks, these 2 years’ training and work life comes to my mind.

I started my life here as an application developer in Logistics Project team, working on areas such as PDF generation for commercial invoice and packing list, user preference update, Purchase Order enquiry and so on. The tasks were challenging and I learnt a lot.

After one and a half years working on application development, my half year job rotation to Infrastructure team began. IP addresses, network monitoring, network equipments and shell script programming were all new to me. The 3 months of shift duty provided me with the opportunity to communicate with colleagues in different countries, which was an invaluable experience.

After finishing the half year of job rotation, I started to take part in BA tasks. From requirement analysis and system prototype implementation to documentation and project review meetings, all these help me to understand more on the logistics business and have a better understanding of the software development cycle.

Working in a different role in different teams has broadened my horizons and help me understand which area I am most interested in. After 2 years of training, I have gained a lot not only from the technical side, but also friendship with other trainees – and have fond memories of sharing sessions, attending seminars together and casual gatherings.
