HKIE Graduate Sharing - B2B team

We are HKIE Scheme “A” Graduate Trainees working in the B2B EDI Integration team. The 2-year program offers structured training and job rotations and transforms us from fresh graduates to IT professionals.

Our work involves developing a Business-to-Business (B2B) platform consisting of B2B Framework and B2B Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Application Integration. B2B Framework provides an enterprise messaging platform with high scalability, availability and extensibility to handle both current and future global logistics solutions. B2B EDI Application Integration provides EDI solutions to business partners.

B2B integration improves the operational efficiency and cost effectiveness when customers handle large volumes of data and share information with their shipping partners through EDI. A reliable EDI platform becomes an integral electronic platform for timely document sharing.

Our team is provided with ample opportunities to gain business knowledge through challenging projects. We learn about the shipment cycle and the associated processes and document requirements. Besides programming and development skills, we also learn non-technical skills. We take turns to contribute through different roles in the project life cycle - from user requirement collection to final product delivery.

Through job rotation, we also get a chance to work in the technical support team. This gives us an opportunity to widen our horizon to see IT from a different perspective, not just from analysis or development but also from operations and network infrastructure, which requires management insight through measurement and analysis.

OOCL provides lot of opportunities to master business, technical, and soft skills. We are very happy to be part of this program. It has taught us many different skills in these two years. That not only widens our horizon on IT but also makes our career future-proof!
