HKIE Graduate Sharing - Enterprise Messaging team and Information Management team

We are HKIE scheme “A” trainees from Information Management and Enterprising Messaging teams. We would like to share our experience participating in various events and activities after joining OOCL through the HKIE Scheme “A” training program.

Apart from being a challenging and rewarding career-launching platform, OOCL’s HKIE training program provides ample opportunities to develop and enhance soft-skills. Each trainee is invited to be an MC at the monthly all-hands meeting and speak in front of over a hundred colleagues. We also meet twice each month in a relaxing environment and take turns to share what we have done and learnt in the last month. This gives us a chance to introduce ourselves to colleagues and learn the art of public-speaking.

We learn to prepare and give presentations in front of other HKIE trainees and our supervisors. In return, we receive valuable feedback.  This not only improves our presentation skills but also make us more confident to speak in front of other people.  This is truly a valuable experience which is not usually found in other companies.

On top of the soft-skill trainings, the HKIE training program also broadens our technology horizons. Recently, HKIE Scheme “A” trainees had a chance to visit OOCL’s data center. From knowledge-sharing by the data center staff and the impressive tour around the data center, we acquired new knowledge about the technologies used in network and security areas, as well as operational procedures of a professional data center serving offices globally. OOCL regularly arranges such exciting and knowledge-enrichment activities to help develop our career.

Through job rotation, we take turns to work in the Network Support Center (NSC) team. Each trainee will work together with an NSC teammate to offer 1st tier support to OOCL global network operation. This is an exciting and precious experience. It not only equips us with a broad view of enterprise network and server management, but also trains to adapt to work in different time zones and learn about different cultures.

Under the training scheme, we attend various seminars organized by colleagues and external organizations. The seminars cover both technical and non-technical topics, such as latest network technology, database techniques, ergonomics, handling work pressures, etc. These seminars enrich our technical knowledge as well as enhance our productivity.

Apart from the work-related events and seminars, we also enjoy group activities arranged by the activity-clubs within the company, such as hiking club, recreation club and football club. Last year, we also helped to organize the Christmas party for the whole Information Services Department. It gave a very good opportunity for us to cooperate and interact with each other. By joining these events and activities, we get many opportunities to meet, interact and work with various colleagues, and thus foster closer work relationship with each other.
