​HKIE Graducate Sharing - BA team 

I am Eva Cheung from Business Analysis team. I joined OOCL as a fresh graduate under the HKIE Scheme “A” program. My main job responsibilities include requirement analysis, high-level application design, and liaising with the development team.

Business Analyst (BA) has a very different role from that of a developer. BA gets involved in a project from the very beginning of the development process, and performs such functions as user requirement, solution design, process flow, integration, and so on. Through the entire process, BA needs to coordinate with different stakeholders and ensure everyone is aligned with requirements. This role provides great opportunity to improve communication skills, coordination, and project management skills.

In addition, OOCL’s emphasis on knowledge sharing and latest social networking tools, such as Intranet, Tibbr, and Wiki, ensure that company’s vision and values are percolated down through the organization. This provides a good learning and collaboration platform for us to understand business and expand technical skills.

I have gained insights into the shipping industry, CRM, software development lifecycle, and Agile development methodology by working in different projects, such as Booking Request, Sailing Schedule, and so on. I am also happy to have had a chance to attend the Agile development methodology training workshop held at Zhuhai, in which experts from ThoughtWorks (a leader in Agile development) shared their experience. OOCL’s willingness to invest in IT and adopt new technologies makes it an ideal environment for young IT talents.
