HKIE Graduate Sharing - Visiting our state of the art data centre

I am Samantha Shum from the End User Computing (EUC) development team. I joined OOCL in September 2010 as an assistant technical analyst, responsible for analyzing user requirements and developing applications.

Recently I had an opportunity to visit OOCL’s data centre, located in one of the world’s largest Internet Service Centre building. The data centre hosts the company’s main servers, runs major backup tasks, and monitors everything in the company’s network. In the event of a disaster, the backup system ensures that the data centre continues to run its services and keeps all data safe and secure.

I am glad to have visited the data centre because I could witness the implementation of so many advanced technologies, such as the biometric security system to ensure only authorized personnel have access to it. In order to maintain quality of service and to keep the infrastructure running efficiently, advanced security systems are employed to protect the servers and dedicated bandwidth is made available for mission critical application traffic from offices across the world.
