HKIE Graduate Sharing - Vincent Fong from Production Services team
Hi ! I am Vincent Fong, a member of the Framework Development team. I joined OOCL through the HKIE Scheme “A” Graduate Training program. This program is awesome! It aims to train fresh graduates not only to become competent IT professionals, but also well-rounded and a socially responsible engineers. Other than helping us learn different kinds of technical skills, such as programming, database management, network management, this program also trains us on mastering planning skills, managerial skills, business skills, people skills and communication skills.
Recently, I had a chance to work in the Production Support team for six months, which is located at Chai Wan. This is a challenging assignment, because we need to work in shifts to provide 24x7 global online technical support to our colleagues working in different offices around the world. There are many things to learn in the Production Support team. Perhaps the most important thing learned is communication and language skills as we need to communicate with colleagues in different offices around the world. I also got to know more about different type of software applications used at OOCL, data center operations, as well as about the critical role data center plays in OOCL.
I am really thankful to OOCL for offering the HKIE Scheme “A” Graduate training program to fresh graduates. The opportunity to work in different teams and learn different technologies is fruitful and invaluable – something you may never experience in other companies.
