HKIE Graduate Sharing - Windy Or from IRIS-2 Application team
Hi, my name is Windy Or. I joined OOCL last year through the HKIE Scheme “A” program. I work in the Application Infrastructure team, and focus on the development and support for the Voice Recording and Empty Pickup Appointment projects. Through these projects, I am able to develop as a professional and put academic theory into real practice.
OOCL offers a learning environment that not only covers technical skills, but also soft skills, such as teamwork, project management and taking initiative. I have had opportunities to learn advanced technologies such as Enterprise Messaging, TIBCO BusinessWorks, and Java Web Service.
A visit to OOCL’s Data Center provided a great opportunity to witness and experience the advanced IT infrastructure, such as servers that handle the critical operational and business data and advanced security and maintenance systems. There are also opportunities to improve communication and presentation skills, such as being MC in the all-hands meetings and participating in the monthly sharing sessions.
In the coming year, through job rotation, I will be working in the Network Support Center for half a year to gain experience in another aspect of IT. OOCL’s encouraging learning environment, advanced IT infrastructure, and experienced senior colleagues make it an ideal growing environment for budding IT professionals.
