OOCL signed an agreement with Samsung Heavy Industries yesterday for two additional 8,063-TEUs SX Class vessels for delivery in 2007. This brings the total numbers of SX Class vessels ordered with Samsung to twelve.

OOCL won Best Main Line Operator at the fifth Lloyd's List Maritime Asia Awards ceremony, held in Shanghai on 4 December. Philip Chow, COO, OOCLL accepted the award on behalf of the company from Sandra Lee, Permanent Secretary for Economic Development and Labor, Hong Kong SAR, at the awards dinner which was attended by 450 top shipping executives.

The service was introduced last June to meet customer demand for additional space during the peak shipping season in the Trans Pacific trade.

Orient Overseas (International) Limited ("OOIL") Group today announced a profit before taxation of US$88.7 million compared with US$4.1 million for the same period last year. After taxation and minority interests, the Group reported a profit of US$79.5 million, an increase of US$78.5 million from the US$1.0 million earned during the first half of 2002.

OOCL Long Beach, the second of the ten 8,063-TEU SX Class vessel delivered to OOCL from Samsung Heavy Industries, arrived at Long Beach Container Terminal, USA, on 25 July, on its maiden port call at the Port of Long Beach. The vessel docked at Long Beach Container Terminal, at the Pier F facility leased by an OOCL subsidiary.

Mr. Courtenay Allan commenced his shipping career with Bristol City Line in February 1967, thereafter spending time with Dart Containerline before finally working for the Tung Group under the OOCL banner. In the early stages of his career, Courtenay built a solid industry foundation working in Documentation, Marketing and Sales before commencing his lengthy service in the Trans-Atlantic Trade.

OOCL has signed today a contract with Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. for the construction of two more 8,063 TEU "SX", class vessels to be delivered in 2006. To-date a total of ten "SX " class vessels has been ordered with Samsung Heavy Industries Ltd. OOCL Shenzhen and OOCL Long Beach, had already been delivered to OOCL in April and June, 2003.

OOCL Sydney, a brand new container vessel of 2,762 TEU, on her maiden voyage, arrived today in Sydney, the city that she is named after. OOCL Sydney sailed from Koyo Shipyard in Japan ten days ago and had visited Shanghai, Chiwan and Hong Kong to load cargo bound for Australian ports.

OOCL Montreal was delivered to OOCL from Daewoo Shipbuilding and Engineering Co on 19 May, 2003. OOCL Montreal is a 4,402 TEU Ice-Strengthened vessel to be phased in Gateway Express (GEX) loop 1 service on 30 June, 2003, with 3 sailings per week plying between Port of Montreal and major European ports via the St. Lawrence River Gateway. OOCL Montreal will become the largest ice-class container vessel ever to sail into the St Lawrence River.

ACE Consortium (China Shipping and OOCL) and ANL Container Line Pty Limited (ANL) today announced that they have entered into a long term alliance agreement. The new alliance will exchange slots on the new "ACE" service which was announced last week between China Shipping and OOCL and on ANL’s NAX service covering Japan, Korea and Taiwan.

OOCL Shenzhen, the largest vessel of the OOCL container fleet at 8,063 TEUs, sailed into Yantian Terminal, Shenzhen today on her maiden voyage to Europe.
OOCL Shenzhen was christened in Korea on 30th April, 2003 by Mrs Irene Chang, wife of Mr TR Chang, CEO of Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd.

A completely new service, The "Australia China Express" (ACE) service will be inaugurated by China Shipping and OOCL starting from the 2nd week of May 2003 replacing the COZ service in serving customers’ transportation and logistics needs between China and Australia.The new ACE service will deploy five container vessels with capacity of 2,500 TEUs each, including two new buildings from OOCL namely "OOCL Sydney" and "OOCL Melbourne".

The Directors are recommending a final dividend of US2.5 cents (HK19.5 cents).

OOCL Xiamen, the first of the 4 chartered-in vessels of OOCL in 2003, arrived Hong Kong yesterday from port of Ningbo and berthed at MTL, Kwai Chung. The vessel will be first deployed in China Middle East Service (CMS) and will phase in the Kanto Taiwan South China Express (KTX) service in early April.
