OOCL is proud to announce that it took delivery of its ninth SX-Class 8,063-TEU vessel in its fleet, from Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. The ship was named the m.v. OOCL Asia by the vessel’s Sponsor Mrs. Betty Tung at the Geoje Shipyard, on Geoje Island, South Korea on March 17, 2006.
Mr. CC Tung, Chairman of Orient Overseas (International) Ltd., spoke at the ceremony: “Today is also a proud day for OOCL,” he said, “The OOCL Asia will be deployed with the Grand Alliance under the EU3 Service Loop, serving the Asia-Europe and Europe-Asia corridors. We believe that this series of vessels, with its advanced design and state-of-the-art equipment, is the foundation on which OOCL is able to deliver the high level of services required by our customers.”
The naming ceremony was a special assembly, as Mr. CC Tung’s brother, Mr. CH Tung, the former Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR, and his wife, Mrs. Betty Tung attended the ceremony; accompanied by Mr. CC Tung’s wife, Mrs. Harriet Tung.
The OOCL Asia will serve on the Asia-Europe trade with the Grand Alliance. Her port rotation will be Southampton / Hamburg / Rotterdam / Port Kelang / Singapore / Shekou / Hong Kong / Ningbo / Shanghai / Xiamen / Yantian / Hong Kong / Singapore and back to Southampton, in a 56-day round trip.

The 8,063-TEU SX-Class vessel is the latest design with modern technology fully complied with the international regulations including environmental protection.
