OOCL Zhoushan Named at Lao Tang Shan Terminal, Zhoushan

OOCL is proud to announce the delivery of the first of two 4,583-TEU vessels from the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. The new vessel was named the m.v. OOCL Zhoushan by the vessel’s Sponsor Mr Zhang Jia Meng, Secretary of the Zhoushan Municipal Committee for the Communist Party of China, and the Director of the People’s Congress of Zhoushan, on 18 September 2006.

Mr CC Tung, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Orient Overseas (International) Ltd., the parent company of Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd., spoke at the ceremony: “Zhoushan is a city with a long history,” he said. “And OOCL decided to name its first China-built containership after Zhoushan, to mark the city’s enormous potential for development and of course, because it is my home town.”

The OOCL Zhoushan will be deployed on one of OOCL’s main routes of the transpacific trade, from Shanghai to Los Angeles, via Ningbo and return to Shanghai for a round trip of 28 days. The vessel will provide importers and exporters of the Yangtze River Delta with more efficient and reliable transportation and logistics service.
