On 27 July 2006, Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) celebrated the inaugural voyage of the m.v. OOCL Dubai to the port of Jebel Ali, U.A.E.
To commemorate the event OOCL organized a luncheon and vessel tour for its valued customers, vendors, service providers and partners. The event was held today at the Wheelhouse Hall, inside Jebel Ali Port. The occasion was graced by The Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Dubai, His Excellency Gao Youzhen as guest of honor and keynote speaker, as well as Mr. Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Vice-Chairman of DP World as a guest of honor and speaker.
The m.v.OOCL Dubai is the fourth of OOCL’s eight new 5,888 Teu S-Class vessels, and was so named to mark the U.A.E.’s long and successful history.
The OOCL Dubai has a special place in OOCL's services: It will be the first vessel deployed on OOCL's newest service linking China with Malaysia, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The new Middle East-Asia Express Service (MAX) will cover a port rotation of: Shanghai / Ningbo / Hong Kong / Shekou / Singapore / Port Kelang / Jebel Ali / Port Kelang / Singapore / Hong Kong and back to Shanghai, for a 35-day round trip.
The rapidly-growing trade between China and the Middle East necessitates that OOCL provides the Vital Link to facilitate and help increase business in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World said, "We are delighted to welcome the OOCL Dubai to Jebel Ali Port on its maiden voyage to the Middle East. It is an honor that OOCL has chosen to name its newest ship after Dubai.”
“We look forward to welcoming OOCL Dubai at our network of ports around the world," he continued.
As one of OOCL’s strategic partners in the region, DP World has committed to continuously assist OOCL and it’s customers to achieve their business objectives.
OOCL’s Director for Intra-Asia Trade, Mr. Michael Kwok, who is based in the company’s headquarters in Hong Kong, attended the ceremony. “The Middle East-Asia Express Service is a long-term investment for the company. We will be successful in running this service through the joint cooperation and support of our valued customers, service providers and key strategic partners,” said Mr. Kwok.
Giovanni Yu, Managing Director of OOCL (UAE) LLC, thanked all the guests who attended this special occasion. “The launching of the Middle East-Asia Express Service and the naming of one of the S-Class vessels as OOCL Dubai is our way of showing OOCL’s commitment to serve the growing transportation and logistics needs of the region,” said Mr. Yu.
