OOCL Celebrates Christening of OOCL Kaohsiung

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) celebrated the christening and delivery of the 5,888-TEU, S-Class OOCL Kaohsiung on March 29, 2006, a container vessel ordered by the company under a long-term time charter agreement with Nissen Kaiun Co., Ltd.

Mr. Koichi Suzuki, the Senior Executive officer of Mitsui Asset Trust Banking Company, Limited named the vessel the OOCL Kaohsiung, followed by the cutting of the Champagne cord by Miss Tamami Okamoto, the Granddaughter of Mr. Abe, Executive Senior Managing Director of Nissen Kaisun Co., Ltd.

The OOCL Kaohsiung was built by the Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.; Koyo Dockyard Co. Ltd. The S-class container vessel is designed for a service speed of 25 knots and is registered in Hong Kong.

The OOCL Kaohsiung will be deployed on Trans Pacific trade on the Pacific North West Express route under the Grand Alliance. The port rotation is: Ningbo - Shanghai - Qingdao - Pusan - Seattle - Vancouver - Tokyo - Nagoya - Kobe and back to Ningbo on a 35-day round trip.
