OOCL announces Montreal Low Water Surcharge
Water levels in the St. Lawrence River are at historically low levels as a result of less winter snow and less rainfall during the spring. The latest projections are that water levels will not improve in the coming months. The reduced water depth negatively affects the loadable capacity of each sailing, leading to increased costs. A surcharge is necessary to ensure the continued provision of high quality services to and from Montreal.
A Low Water Surcharge will be implemented for all cargo moving via the Port of Montreal with effect from July 19 2010 as follows:
- USD 75 per 20’ container
- USD 150 per 40’ container
