US Store-Door Delivery "SDD" (Carrier Haulage) restrictions with immediate effect

As you will have followed through media coverage, truck power in the USA remains a challenge due to increased intermodal volumes and a national shortage of truck drivers.
According to the American Trucking Association, the industry has about 30,000 unfilled truck driver jobs, despite trucking companies now offering significant incentives to experienced drivers.
Factors causing truck driver shortages:
- Many drivers left the industry during the U.S. economic recession
- Low wages for truck drivers
- Government safety regulations reduced the driver’s hours of service
- Marine and rail terminal congestion have increased driver’s waiting times
In order to cope with the current challenges, OOCL regrets to inform that effective immediately
we will no longer offer Store-Door Deliveries for the following cargo types:
- Dangerous Goods (all Classes of DG)
- IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Containers)
- Overweight Cargo: exceeding 39,500lbs/20’ or 44,500lbs/40’ or 42,000lbs/45’
- Reefer Containers
These cargo types cause extreme difficulties to find drivers qualified or indeed willing to handle such shipments. For such cargo types we will offer service to/from quay or inland rail terminal, with door deliveries under merchant arrangement only.
Please ensure that such cargo types are correctly identified at booking stage. Should the cargo nature or weight be changed at a later state and then fall under the above restrictions, the shipment will be changed to CY delivery only with all applicable manifest amendment fees charged.
For general cargo within standard weight limits we continue to accept Store-Door Deliveries.
Above restrictions only apply for shipments delivered to the USA, including cross-border traffic via Canadian ports.
For shipments to be delivered to Canadian destinations there are currently no restrictions.
