Piraeus

General Information
The container terminal of Piraeus is operated by Piraeus Port Authority (PPA), a private company in which the Greek State holds the controlling majority.

Terminal & Facilities

The terminal has a total length of 2,100 metres and can service ships of up to 16 m. draught. It has an internal operational area of 800,000 sq. meters.  It offers:

  • a Free Zone, operating under the customs code of the European Union.
  • container terminal, operating 24 hours with flat rates.
  • links to road and rail networks for Greece and all neighbouring Balkan countries.

Equipment

  • 14 Gantry Cranes
  • 1 Mobile Port Crane
  • 68 Straddle Carriers
  • 22 Forklifts
  • 29 Tractors
  • 39 Tows

Services

The terminal operates throughout the year, on a round the clock basis, with flat rates for loading / discharging operations.  Storage and facilities for stuffing/unstuffing operations are also provided.

DG Restrictions

DG with IMO class 1 and 7 are not accepted. All other DG must be declared 24 hours before entering the port area.

Weight restrictions.

Containers of gross weight up to 45 tons can be handled in the port, but road restrictions are up to 26 tons (including container tare).

Thessaloniki

General Information

The container terminal of Thessaloniki is operated by Thessaloniki Port Authority,  a private company in which the Greek State holds the controlling majority.

Terminal & Facilities

The terminal has a total length of 600 metres and can service ships of up to 12 m. draught. It has an internal operational area of 200,000 sq. meters and with the undergoing extension operations in Pier No 6, which are expected to be completed in 2010, it will double its present area. It offers:

  • a Free Zone, operating under the customs code of the European Union.
  • container terminal, operating 24 hours with flat rates.
  • links to road and rail networks for Greece and all neighbouring Balkan countries.

Equipment

  • Two (2) Post Panamax quayside gantry cranes (lifting capacity up to 50 ton)
  • Two (2) quayside gantry cranes (lifting capacity up to 45 ton)
  • One (1) rail mounted transtainer for container handling in rail wagons (lifting capacity up
  • to 50 ton)
  • 1 Mobile 100 ton crane
  • Sufficient number of straddle carriers and frontlifters
