Notification -  Shenzhen Western Terminal Port Code Unification

Dear Valued Customers,

According to the notification issued by the China Merchants Shenzhen Western Terminal, please be advised that the Shekou Container Terminal Ltd (UN Port Code CNSHK) and Chiwan Container Terminal Co., Ltd (UN Port Code CNCWN) have agreed to unify as a single entity to use the UN port name SHEKOU and UN port code CNSHK from January 1st, 2017, onwards, with a transitional period of up to 3 months to allow for adjustments in the industry.

The planning for this arrangement started 3 years ago, with the aim to improve the overall efficiency of the port and to provide better and more comprehensive services to customers. Our understanding is that it will not affect the local customs declaration process nor the data transmission to/from Shenzhen EDI Center and CM Port Shenzhen Western Port Customs declaration platform.

Effective April 1st, 2017, OOCL will use the port name of Shekou and UN port code of CNSHK for both terminals.   As such, we would like to draw your attention to the following:

1. “Chiwan” will be replaced by “Shekou” in all our documents, e.g. sailing schedules and service route maps;
2.  “Shekou” as Port of Loading (POL) or Port of Discharge (POD) is expected in all submissions for Booking Requests, Shipping Instructions and Verified Gross Mass (VGM) information;
3. “Chiwan” and “CNCWN” shall be replaced by “Shekou” and “CNSHK” in EDI transmission, if any, with us.
4. Timely update of port name in related business or shipping documents, such as L/C, is highly recommended to ensure data consistency.
