Unrest in Rajasthan - Called Off

Please be informed that on Thursday i.e 19-June-08 Gujjar community called off the nearly month-long agitation for Scheduled Tribe status.

The rail movement from New Delhi Inland Container Depot (ICD) to Mumbai area will become normal within 2-3 days to clear the backlog of import pendency units which are still lying at Nhava Sheva (NHV) terminal for ICD-railment.

June 09, 2008 Subject – India Inland haulage disruption updates :

Further to the various updates regarding the container movements on the rail corridor in the NHV-NCR locations, please take note that the movement has re-started but movement is still very erratic as compared to the normal movement. As a result, the inventory at the three terminals has built up to a levels where the terminal performance is getting affected as they try to hold the imports for the affected ICD's.

Attached  XL sheet of inventories for all the three terminals and also the OOCL import volumes presently waiting to get railed out.

CONCOR has already given out a proposal for moving the  overflows to their CFS (DRT) where they will hold the inventory and then rail out from there once rakes are available, this is to ensure that the terminals do not start refusing the inbounds from vessel due to lack of space in the terminal. The agitation though a bit diluted ,has all the ingredients which could last for quite some time, with the government and the affected people reaching a stalemate. As a result, delay in transit to and from NDH is inevitable and may take few weeks to clear.

To add to the woes, the rains too have arrived and for the last two days its been raining moderate/heavy and with the inventory at these alarming levels , even a small impact could result into a potential terminal stopping situation.

Public Notice

Furthering to the below news this is to advise all CONCOR users that train services to JNPT/ NSICT/ GTIL are limping back to normalcy as CONCOR has planned to clear 5 to 6 rakes every day to these destinations subject to availability of incoming rakes.

Port was changed for some containers from JNPT/NSICT/ GTIL to MDPT/ PPBR.  CONCOR will also try to clear this traffic on daily basis again subject to availability of incoming rakes.  If any one is interested in re-changing of port from MDPT/ PPBR back to JNPT/ NSICT/ GTIL, the same shall be permitted freely, as per notice received from CONCOR.

India
port trains disrupted

Container Corporation of India, the state-owned intermodal logistics provider, said civil unrest in parts of the country has severely affected train movements between the northern hinterland and major gateway ports on the west coast.

The unrest follows a week-long protest over status classification by ethnic Gujjars in the state of Rajasthan.

"While Concor is putting in all possible efforts to run trains via alternative routes, the limited capacity available on such routes makes it impossible to maintain normal number of trains," the company said in a notice to shipping lines and the trade.

Meanwhile, reports from New Delhi indicate that a day-long protest by the tribal group disrupted road and rail traffic in the capital city.

Almost 60 percent of India's containerized traffic moves through the western Port of Jawaharlal Nehru. In fiscal 2007-08 ended March 31, it handled a record 4.06 million TEUs, while inland volume totaled 1.01 million TEUs. Based on latest estimates, throughput is expected to reach 4.52 million TEUs in 2008-09.

28th May 2008,
Important Announcement:
The  rail movement from New Delhi ICDs to Nhava-Sheva, Mumbai area is temporarily suspended by CONCOR till further notice. We shall keep all concerned posted on the status.

Agitation in Northern India affects movement of ICD containers
Due to some agitation in the northern India, rail movement has been severely

affected. As a result of which there may not be sufficient trains arriving

into Port Terminals and evacuation of ICD containers may suffer for couple

of days.

However CONCOR has assured us that efforts are being made with Railways for supplying more

trains as far as possible and speedy restoration of normal operations.
