Chennai  Port Congestion update – II

Chennai terminal continues to suffer fm severe congestion with the entire container movementadversely affected.  More than 12000 teus lying inside the terminal and removal of cntrs greatly hampered.  Long “Q” seen inside the terminal and  productivity is very low resulting is delays in berthing and sailing of vessel.

To combat the situation, the terminal has reduced the export carting time fm 4 days to 3 days butcongestion does not seem to ease.  Delivery of import cntrs affected and customers upset since they are made to pay extra demurrage/detention charges.

This congestion , the second one in 6 months has affected the EXIM  trade very badly  and we fear the situation may turn into a major catastrophe unless steps are taken to quickly to ease out the situation.

Shall keep you all posted on timely basis of the situation.
