CHENNAI PORT STRIKE HAS BEEN CALLED OFF

With the several rounds of meeting with the concerned parties and the assurance given by Port/terminal officials to reopen Gate 2A from Sunday (28-08-11) night, the representatives of Driver/Cleaner union were impressed & convinced and they hv called off the their strike from 23rd Aug midnight onwards. However only 20% of driver/cleaners  hv reported to duty & the import container evacuation from terminal has commenced which is progressing  very slowly and those trailers with export containers lined up in queue are still put on hold in view of lack of  terminal yard space/carting forms not made available for the fresh vessels.     We hope the trailer movement will be geared up  and will be in full swing by end of today to enable  speedy evacuation of import containers from terminal-cy on priority.
