Dominique van der Weken,
Manager, Customer Service Development,
Salt Lake City, USA
The ‘transport and logistics’ bug hit me back in 1998 during a summer job with OOCL’s customer service export desk. After studying logistics at university, I began my OOCL career in earnest in 2001.
Since then I have had many opportunities to grow within the company: I worked as the customer service supervisor for Asia-Europe Trade and Transatlantic Trade in 2004, helped set up our Basel office in 2006, and moved to sales in 2008. In 2009 I was promoted to outside sales.
I am very happy to have had the chance to work in customer service and sales, which allowed me to see both the commercial and operational side and is helping me a lot in my current job.
My biggest achievement and biggest challenge, is the new position which I have held since December 2010: the country manager of Spain. This is an amazing opportunity and I am passionate about, and dedicated to, my position.
OOCL was my first ever employer and after 10 years, I can say that coming to work is still a pleasure. Like with most families, some days are tough and you have your issues, but in the end: I’m proud to be a member of my OOCL Family!
