About OOCL Netherlands

The Netherlands is the European part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which is made up of the Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. The Netherlands is a constitutional monarchy, located in northwestern Europe. It borders the North Sea to the north and west, Belgium to the south, and Germany to the east.

The Netherlands covers 41,500 square kilometers, and has a population of approximately 16.3 million. Some 18.4 percent of the country is water; as a large part of the Netherlands has been reclaimed from the sea.

The Netherlands is the most-densely populated country within Europe, with 484 inhabitants per sqm.  The official language is Dutch and Frisian, but only in the Northern part of the country.

Windmills, tulips, wooden shoes and Delftware pottery are among the items associated with the country. The Netherlands is a member of the European Union and is host to the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court at The Hague.

Though Amsterdam has a long history as a port, it is only within recent years that it is building a reputation as container port following the establishment of the Ceres Paragon terminal.
