In 2006 GDP per capita was recorded by the Romanian Statistics Office to be USD 9869, with unemployment at 5.0%. Exports have increased substantially in the last few years, with a 25% year-on-year rise in the first quarter of 2006. The country, however, maintains a large trade deficit, as it imports 37% more goods than it exports.
