Oliver - Please sir, I want some more

The Story

"Oliver" is another spectacular London production from Cameron Mackintosh, the producer of box-office hits Cats, Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera and Miss Saigon.

The Australian tour of Cameron Mackintoshs Oliver will start in Sydney in May, after four record-breaking years at London's Palladium Theatre, as the first stop before moving on to Singapore and then back to London.

Based on Charles Dickens's novel, Oliver Twist, two children (9 and 12) will play the part of Oliver, uttering the immortal lines, "Please sir, I want some more."  Joining them are approximately 40 boys and girls aged from 6-15, who will alternate in the roles of Oliver's mate the Artful Dodger, Assorted waifs - cheeky and miserable from the orphan Workhouse, irrepressible urchins, and graduates of Fagin's school for young pickpockets, who practice their art in the bustling London streets of the late 19th century. The 85-strong cast and orchestra, showcases the cream of Australian talent.

The musical is brimming with superb songs - the irresistible, moving and humorous - including Food Glorious Food, Where Is Love, Consider Yourself, You've Got To Pick-a-Pocket Or Two, As Long As He Needs Me, and I'd Do Anything. No other musical boasts as many favorites.

The Logistics

The set, props and costumes occupies 15 x 40 containers, and all had to travel from different parts of England, and then be delivered to Sydney, the show's first stop, by OOCL.

The show opens in Sydney at the Lyric Theatre, Star City, on May 14, 2002.
