​Singapore, often referred to as the Garden City, or the Red Dot, is a city-state island of about 719.9 square kilometers, and is located at the southern tip of West Malaysia and at the Northern Archipelago of the Indonesian Riau islands. Singapore is home to about 5.7 million (as at end June 2019) people and is one of the most culturally diversified, multi-racial, metropolitan cities in the world. Singapore has produced the award-winning Changi International Airport, it has one of the world’s busiest seaport, the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA), and is situated along the world’s busiest shipping lane - the Straits of Malacca.


Economy

Singapore has a highly developed and successful free-market economy, enjoys a remarkably open and corruption-free environment, stable prices, and a per capita GDP higher than that of most developed countries. The economy depends heavily on exports, particularly of consumer electronics, chemicals, and biomedical. information technology products, medical and optical devices, pharmaceuticals, and on its vibrant transportation, business, and financial services sectors. Singapore has attracted major investments in pharmaceuticals and medical technology production and will continue efforts to strengthen its position as Southeast Asia's leading financial and high-tech hub.​
