Real Time Release: Online Payment Portal for OOCL's Demurrage Charges
OOCL's Real Time Release platform is an online payment portal that facilitates the demurrage payments for all import shipments moving through:
- All terminals in Baltimore, Boston, Charleston, Houston, Miami, Mobile, New Orleans, New York/New Jersey, Norfolk, Oakland, Savannah, Seattle, Tacoma, and Tampa.
- All terminals in Long Beach and Los Angeles.
- Depot: Duncan and Son Lines, Inc. in Phoenix, AZ.
This user-friendly tool provides easy navigation and simply requires a bill of lading number or a container number to start the process.

- US inland rail destination: Check actual free time information on the respective railroad website and pay demurrage direct to provider or their preferred online platform.
For Canada locations:
Where applicable, we accept payment via PayCargo, CargoSprint, ACH and wire transfer. OOCL will acknowledge internally that monies have been received and posted into our system prior to release.
Demurrage: What is it?
Demurrage charges are applied for storage of laden containers whilst in OOCL's care in a port, rail terminal, feeder terminal, inland depot or container yard. Demurrage is applied after a designated free time.
Detention: What is it?
Detention charges are applied for the storage or holding of containers whilst in our customers' care outside a port, rail terminal, feeder terminal, inland depot or container yard. Detention is applied after a designated free time.
There are 2 types of Detention:
Merchant Haulage: when customers do their own trucking and have to return the container back to OOCL's care within the free period.
Carrier Haulage (Drop & Collect): container is left at the customer's own premises whilst they load or devan it. OOCL's vehicle returns a different day to pull it out.

Reefer Monitoring Charges
Reefer monitoring charges (originally included in our demurrage charge schedule) where applicable, have been broken out as a separate charge for U.S. origin and destination in the spirit of providing additional transparency to customers. The respective OOCL Tariff Rules covering these changes can be found here: E-40-72 tariff and S-27 tariff.
For import reefer cargoes discharging at the following terminals, payment for reefer monitoring charges should be made via the Real Time Release platform.
- All terminals in Baltimore, Boston, Charleston, Houston, Miami, Mobile, New Orleans, New Orleans, New York/New Jersey, Norfolk, Oakland, Savannah, Seattle, Tacoma, and Tampa.
- Depot: Duncan and Son Lines, Inc. in Phoenix, AZ
