Requirements for DG Documentation

What are the requirements for DG documentation? Please see the following file for the specifics and for regulatory references.

Requirements for DG Documentation                       Download (76KB)

How do I Start?

The IMDG form is an informative yet simple document.  Filling one out correctly can help reduce complications and timing issues for your D/G cargo.  Down below, we have some examples as well as a guide for your reference.

First we have the Multimodal DG form.  This form needs Microsoft Excel to run correctly.  It provides interactive roll over cells that have information regarding the form and how to fill it out.  It is a great reference for anyone who deals with dangerous goods.

Second, we have some in house example that we have put together, so you can see what is on an IMDG form looks like when it is complete.  We have two examples, one is a container laden with multiple D/G cargo.  Second example we have is a shipper who is using a tank container.  Please download below for the file.

Segregation Chart for the transportation of Hazardous materials

The segregation Table shows the general requirements for segregation between various classes of dangerous goods. Since the property of substances, materials or articles within each class may vary greatly, the Dangerous Goods list should always be consulted for particular provisions for segregation as, in the case of conflicting provisions, these take precedence over the general provisions

OOCL’s website provides this chart to our customers for assistance in their handling of hazardous cargo. Please click on the link to access this handy tool:-

Prohibited Hazardous Intermodal Shipments

Please be advised that BNSF has a new listing of prohibited commodities that cannot be accepted by BNSF. The listing includes poisonous gas, flammable, non-flammable tank commodities that will no longer be accepted with or without Department of Transportation exemption or Federal Railroad Administration approval. There are different categories for Trailers and Containers, and Tank Containers. This new ruling is effective July 1st, 2008.
