Customer Advisory - Southern California Wildfire Service Interruption - Update
Please be advised that the California Department of Forestry (CDF) continues to permit conditional movement of trains through Southern California, between Verdemont and Cajon (please see attached map). The wildfire situation has not improved, high winds and dry weather continue to frustrate efforts to control several wildfires burning from Santa Barbara to the Mexico border.
BNSF projects up to a 48 hour transit delay for all cargo moving to/from California. BNSF has Maintenance of Way and Train Operations teams on site to continuously monitor the wildfire danger and to develop service recovery plans.
As BNSF train crews are reaching legally mandated hours of service limits, additional crews have been called. BNSF warns some trains may be delayed due to crew shortages.
BNSF has reduced train speeds for all westbound trains, some inland westbound train departures are being delayed 24 hours.
Should CDF again shut down the rail line due to fire, BNSF operating plan is to hold trains on rail sidings at Seligman, Arizona and Gallup, New Mexico. Trains will be released for movement as soon as the California Department of Forestry allows trains to move to/from Southern California marine terminals
