OOCL launches new environmental care website

OOCL is pleased to announce the launch of its new and upgraded website outlining our dedication to environmental care. OOCL believes that by taking a proactive role in caring for the environment, we can help minimize our carbon footprint, as well as other harmful pollutants such as sulphur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matters, and make the world a better place to live for ourselves and future generations.

Container shipping is the most environmentally sound way to transport large volumes of goods across the world,” said Philip Chow, CEO of OOCL. “However, we realize that it is a very large industry and inevitably has an effect on the environment. In today’s world, every business in every industry must proactively work to reduce harmful emissions. We at OOCL encourage sustainable economic development through innovative and voluntary measures, and we are pleased to publicise our efforts on this new website.”

The website is divided into three main sections: Reducing emissions (CO2, NOx and SOx), promoting care for the environment and conserving resources. The three sections cover every aspect of OOCL’s business, from on board our vessels, to terminals, containers, inside our offices and employee training. These efforts are aimed at improving the quality of life in the communities where we live and work.

OOCL voluntarily cooperates with many programs and standards around the world, and has received numerous awards and recognition for our achievements and quality practices. These awards and recognition, including Qualship 21, Port of Long Beach Green Flag Program, ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:2004, are described in more detail on the website.

Other useful features of the website include a downloadable diagram of environmentally friendly features on OOCL newbuilding vessels, an e-brochure, a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section, useful links to environmental agencies and organisations around the world, and an environment-focused photo library showcasing our environmental efforts around the world.

The website can be viewed at www.oocl.com/eng/aboutoocl/Environmentalcare/
