Grand Opening of OOCL Sponsored Baker Park in Long Beach, CA

On May 4, 2013, the community of North Long Beach came out to celebrate the grand opening of the new Baker Park.

It was a festive occasion with speeches given by Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster, City Council member James Johnson, State Assembly member Steve Neal and Anthony Otto (MGT-LBCT/LGB) representing both Long Beach Container Terminal and OOCL. Speeches were followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony and then mobs of children enjoying the playground provided by OOCL.

As part of OOCL’s and Long Beach Container Terminal’s on-going commitment to give back to the community in which we serve, we partnered with the City of Long Beach and its Department of Parks and Recreation to help fund a new park. OOCL donated the funds needed to build the new wheel chair accessible playground equipment.

The donated funds were generated through the Port of Long Beach Green Flag discounts that LBCT had received as a result of OOCL’s 100% compliance with the Voluntary Vessel Speed Reduction Program which has been in place for several years as part of the port's Clean Air Action Plan.
