Customer Advisory: ILWU (Canada West Coast) – Update 5
Customer Advisory: ILWU (Canada West Coast) – Update 5
July 19, 2023

Dear Valued Customer,

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Canada rejected the tentative agreement that had been reached on July 13, 2023.   Due to this situation, the ILWU has commenced a work stoppage at a number of sites across British Columbia.

The Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) convened a hearing during the evening of July 18th in response to the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA)'s application that the Union had not provided 72 hours strike notice as required by the Canada Labour Code. The CIRB has ruled that the Union was in violation of the Canada Labour Code by not providing the appropriate notice, and has ordered the Union to cease and desist its work action effective immediately.

For most current developments on this evolving situation, please refer to:

As situation is extremely fluid and developing, we strongly encourage you and your vendor to contact the respective ocean and rail facilities for any restrictions prior to dispatching any container transport.

For the most updated operating and receiving schedules, please refer to the respective providers for specific details:
