OOCL Takes Delivery of 2,400 MAGNUM Refrigeration Units

OOCL is accredited with providing cost-efficient reefer transportation and logistics for perishables, seafood, meat and industrial products that require special handling in temperature, humidity and atmosphere control.

As part of these enhanced reefer services, OOCL took delivery of 2,400 MAGNUM units, 100 of which also include Advanced Fresh Air Management (AFAM+) technology to add to the existing 2,000 units.

The MAGNUM provides the lowest industry transportation temperature, which is ideal for seafood, ice cream and specialty products like pharmaceuticals and blood plasma. It's energy efficiency translates into decreased environmental impact due to the use of less fuel.

"The MAGNUM and AFAM units align well with OOCL's goals in superior customer service and environmental responsibility." says Teddy Fung, Director of Reefer Trade.

Should you require further information on any of OOCL's services, please do not hesitate to contact OOCL sales or customer service in USA or Canada at 1-888-388-6625.

What Safety Regulations Does OOCL Have in Place?

To ensure safety at sea, prevention of human injury or loss of life, and avoidance of damage to the environment, in particular to the marine environment and to property, a Safety and Environmental Protection (SEP) System (now ISM) was introduced into OOCL in 1993. We have significantly improved our safety measures and our track record since then. The system which has been enhanced, has now become the Safety, Quality and Environment (SQE) Management System which also includes the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.

Some Environmental Tips to Remember

Cell Phones, Recycling & Reuse

Tens of millions of cellular telephones are put in boxes every year, never to be used again. That's too bad. Phones are useful, but they contain toxic materials and should be recycled.

Now you can donate your old wireless phone. Recycled phones go overseas to people who can't get regular telephone service, or to people in abusive relationships (the phones are programmed to call 911 only). Phones or phone parts (like batteries & cords) are collected. Try to collect as many parts as possible. Drop your phone or phone parts at any Sprint PCS or Staples chain store, or see
CollectiveGood or WirelessRecycling.com for mailing information.

Making Waves at the Dragon Boat Festival in San Francisco

The OOCL Dragons with Mr. Peter Leng, President OOCL (USA) Inc.

The OOCL Dragons paddled their way to 4th place after participating in the 12th Annual San Francisco International Dragon Boat Festival! This was our second year of participation in this community event.

The OOCL Dragons were part of the corporate group (novice) which had an astounding total of 30 teams enroll.
The OOCL Dragons consisted of colleagues from San Ramon and San Jose, with 29 paddlers that had to be rotated for the three races so that everyone had a chance to share the fun.

It was a weekend of world-class dragon boat racing, spectacular cultural performances, and fun filled activities for the whole family at the largest competitive dragon boat festival in the United States.

This year, there were over 100 dragon boat teams and 2,500 dragon boat paddlers from across North America racing the 500 and 300 meter course. Dragon boat teams range from novice to competitive skill level. Novice teams represent local Bay Area corporations, public agencies, and non-profit community organizations. Recreational and competitive teams practice year-round and come from all over the United States, Canada, and Germany to battle it out in the championships.

In addition to the exciting dragon boat racing, the festival featured many fun cultural activities: an entertainment stage with live dance and music performances, the Dragon Land children's activity tent, and a variety of food, arts & crafts, and other vendors.

The Dragon Boat Festival celebrates a reenactment of the Chinese legend and celebrates one of three major holidays with the Moon Festival and Chinese New Year.

Dragon boats are 45 feet long with a dragonhead on the bow and a tail on the stern. Twenty paddlers follow the pace of the drummer and are steered by a steersman.
