We have been informed that from January 1st 2007, the dangerous cargo department of the Belgian Shipping Inspection, HAZMAT, will do more strict inspections for dangerous cargo shipments. The cause for this decision is the repeatedly negligence/sloppiness when shipping dangerous goods.
The major change in this procedure will be that shipments that do not meet the regulations (documentation, stuffing, packing, ...) will be blocked immediately.
In the attachments you will find both a Dutch and English version with more information about the ruling.
Thanks to read this attentively, and please note the parts marked in red, which we consider the biggest obstacle for our DGD's right now.
We would therefore like to ask once more to make sure every DGD contains all required information:
- Vessel name
- Port of loading
- Port of discharge
- inner AND outer packing
- net AND gross weight
- flashpoints if necessary
- packing group
- indication of Marine pollutant, Limited Quantity, ... if applicable
- correct technical/chemical names (not commercial ones)
- containernumber!!!
- duly signed:
- if DGD and container packing certificate in one document: signed twice!!!
- name and signature, place and date
- if only DGD => container packing certificate seperately to be send and signed
Also, please make sure all containers are duly stuffed and secured in a seaworthy way (rolling and shifting at sea due to bad weather!)
All requirements can of course be found in the IMDG-code
Please be aware that we will demand for a new, complete DGD if those requirements are not met.
We are only doing this in your best interest, in order to avoid a possible container block by Hazmat later, resulting most probably in a shortshipment.
