Montreal lock out

SITUATION AT THE PORT OF MONTREAL

Due to the facility lock out at Montreal port customers have the choice to terminate cargo at Halifax, NS port or continue to move cargo to the final destination subject to a cargo diversion surcharge (CDS).

This cargo diversion surcharge is needed to recover the additional cost of moving the cargo to final destination from Halifax now instead of Montreal. The more cost is based on the additional cost from Halifax to the nearest railhead of the final door destination.

Below listed CDS levels will apply for dry cargoes only. The CDS for reefer cargo is to be finalised soonest.

Current vessels that are being diverted to Halifax are:

  • OOCL Montreal : ETA HFX 23th of July
  • MSC Aniello : ETA HFX 24th of July
  • Toronto Express : ETA HFX 26th of July

IMPORTANT: An immediate booking stop for all our Montreal bound vessels is being implemented until further notice. Same is applying for any eastbound bookings.
We expect to advise our position latest tomorrow, for cargo being booked for upcoming vessels but for which the empty containers have not been picked up or released yet.

Due to this unexpected and sudden additional throughput via Halifax, some delay is expected whilst our Canadian colleagues will do their utmost to arrange the quickest on carriages possible.

 Further vessel specific info:

  • Montreal Express (ETD ANR 23/7, ETA MTR 2/8) will be loaded based on the St. Lawrence water levels, so if the dispute is resolved the vessel can transit directly to Montreal.
  • Mississauga Express, currently transiting,  ETA Montreal 29.7 – situation to be advised, depending on further labour negotiations.
  • Strategy on  MSC Gina (ETD ANR 22/7) and OOCL Belgium (ETD ANR 29/7) will be based on the labour situation prevailing when sailing out of the last European port of call.

We will keep you updated of any further news and for any additional enquiry, please do not hesitate to contact our local Customer Service or Sales dpt.
