Possible strike on the US West Coast
Local News
September 06, 2012

Dear Valued Customer,

We would like to share with you the attached Customer Advisory that has been sent by OOCL USA to our local customer base.

A clear distinction should be made though between the situation on the East Coast/Gulf ports and the USWC ports where is referred to in below advisory.

Whilst  the ILWU  (the West Coast union workers) does have a contract through to 2014, the OCU (Office Clerical Union) contract expired in 2010.  They are  affiliated with the ILWU but they are not represented by their leadership and negotiate individually with each Carrier & Terminal.  The OCU is grouping a 600 clerks.

Currently the OCU is negotiating the new agreement with the Harbor Employers Association and as per below, the negotiations are seemingly heading the right way.

Currently there is no further news to report on the situation for the East and Gulf ports. We keep you advise in case more new developments would be taking place.

Thank you for your continued support to OOCL.
