Customer Advisory: Hurricane Sandy Update, 08 Nov 2012 FAQ
As the recovery and clean up efforts continue along the North East corridor of the U S, our thoughts and well wishes remain with those impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Updated shipment specific information is available on www.oocl.com or by contacting our Customer Service at 1-888-388-OOCL. In an effort to also provide our customers with general information in regards to cargo status, we have provided the following FAQ.
Hurricane Sandy Aftermath FAQ
- QUESTION: My export container was delivered to a (NYC/NJ) terminal and was not yet loaded when Hurricane Sandy affected the terminal operating capability – how do I know if my cargo experienced any damage?
ANSWER: Our terminals have identified all export containers that were stacked on the first tier when the storm hit. It is our intention to survey these containers and cargo in order to protect the cargo from any possible further damage due to the storm prior to loading out on a vessel. We are notifying impacted customers whose containers are included on this list.
- QUESTION: Who is the responsible party for the charges incurred to conduct this survey?
ANSWER: All charges incurred will be for the account of cargo. We hereby reiterate that such action is being taken in the best interest of all contracting parties in view of circumstances beyond our control.
- QUESTION: I had a laden container on dock when Sandy hit and have experienced cargo damage, do I submit a claim per the normal channel? How do I submit a claim?
ANSWER: Yes claim is to be submitted via our normal channel which is done by email to [email protected], or you can fill out a claim form online by going to OOCL.com and click on Resource Center.
From our Resource Center select e-Claims. This will provide you with all of the necessary documentation required to submit a claim along with the claim form itself.
- QUESTION: I picked up my import container and there is water damage – what do you want me to do? Should I de-van the product?
ANSWER: Continue to devan the product taking photos throughout the course of the devanning process. Keep records of the unloading tally sheets. Inform OOCL Claims by email [email protected], or by submitting a claim on-line via e-Claims.
- QUESTION: Is there a certain location where I need to return my empty container to?
ANSWER: OOCL empty containers are to be returned to the interchange facility from which the load was originally picked up from
- QUESTION: As your OOCL NYC office remains closed at this time, and I normally submit my OBL and check to this location where do I now submit these items?
