OOCL Receives Port of Long Beach Green Flag/Green Ship Award
On May 30th OOCL was recognized by the Port of Long Beach in their voluntary Green Flag and Green Ship Incentive Programs. OOCL was one of only three carriers to be recognized for this dual award.
In order to qualify for the Green Flag Incentive Program, vessels are required to slow down to 12 nautical knots or less within 40 miles (nm) of the entrance to the harbor, OOCL was recognized as achieving 100% compliance to this program in 2012. For the Green Ship Incentive Program vessels are required to meet Tier 2 emission standards as established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a standard that OOCL meets with the introduction of the new build SSX rotation vessels OOCL Miami, OOCL Memphis, OOCL Beijing and OOCL Canada.
OOCL was awarded a ceremonial ‘Green Flag’, a ‘Green Ship’ award and certificates of recognition for the achievement from the Californian State Senate and State Legislature. OOCL has proudly participated in the Green Flag Incentive Program since its inception.
