OOCL Wins 2013 San Pedro Ports Clean Air Action Plan Award
We are delighted to announce that OOCL has been chosen as one of the five winners of the 2013 San Pedro Ports Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) Award in the category of “Air Quality Improvement Leadership at the Corporate Level”, demonstrating OOCL’s commitment in taking a proactive role to minimize the carbon footprint in the supply chain as well as efforts in working with stakeholders to improve the air quality in the local community.
Nominations for the award were reviewed by a committee consisting of staff from the Port of Long Beach (POLB) and the Port of Los Angeles (POLA), as well as representatives from the South Coast Air Quality Management District, California Air Resources Board and United States Environmental Protection Agency, Region 9.
In addition to OOCL’s continual participation in the Vessel Speed Reduction Program, an initiative that involves the lowering of vessel speeds to reduce emissions while ships approach the shoreline, OOCL also contributes in the POLA’s Environmental Ship Index incentive program, a voluntary clean air initiative that encourages ocean carriers to bring their most environmental friendly vessels to the Los Angeles port.
In a joint POLB and POLA award presentation ceremony, Mr. Y C Shing, Director of Marine and Consortium of OOCL was presented the award by the POLB Acting Deputy Executive Director Dr. Noel Hacegaba and POLA Executive Director Geraldine Knatz, Ph.D. as they thanked all the winners for their support and contributions to a greener and cleaner community. In working together to reach a common goal of zero emissions, OOCL is proud to have contributed to the 75% reduction in the overall diesel emissions at the ports and congratulates the other winners for their environmental achievements.
