With the strong IT environment at OOCL, I had plenty of opportunities to develop supply chain solutions and practice how to deliver software professionally during my training period. The program introduced me to the IT culture of OOCL; such experience in my early years has helped me discover my strengths and interests to further develop my career. I enjoyed my job rotation during the trainee program because it gave me so much inspiration. It widened my horizon and understanding of the Company’s businesses from different perspectives. Also, my communication and project management skills were strengthened through cooperating with teammates from the rotation teams. Being involved in several data center revamp, global office migration, cloud expansion, and automation projects that required strong data network knowledge, I found my interest in cloud infrastructure. With my prior experience in both Azure and Alibaba Cloud, now I’m specialized in designing and constructing cloud networks.

The most memorable experience in OOCL is having the honor to cooperate with Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) to study how to embody reinforcement learning in the shipping industry. Other than just working internally, we were given the chance to work with the world’s top scientific and technological experts, from understanding business requirements, architecture design, algorithms design, to framework implementation and solution evaluation. I enjoyed the time working with them as I could learn new things and knowledge almost every day. It is one of the most important milestones in my career.

One of the perks about the Data Science Trainee Program is that we can learn advanced techniques and rotate to different project teams. Regular literature sharing sessions enabled me to learn from other teammates. Our mentors also gave us timely advice on both technological and shipping domain areas. Through formal performance reviews every 6 months, we received concrete feedback from supervisors, mentors and peers with a clear picture to improve ourselves and of our career path. The support from senior members is more than sufficient, especially when you have a proactive mentality to ask more. I would love to say that joining OOCL is one of my best career choices!
