Making a Green Effort

As a socially responsible corporate citizen, OOCL recognizes the importance of taking responsibility for its industry effect on the environment.
 
Other than our active participation in various industry initiatives, we also focus on “Going Green” at local levels around our global offices.
 
In 2007, we started our yearly one-week event called Green Week during which our global offices organize numerous activities to promote the “green message” both internally and externally. 

This year, Green Week was held from July 4-10 and has proved a big success.  Below are some highlights of our activities this year.

Hong Kong: Sale of used books – proceeds go to charity

North China: Auction of used items donated by staff – proceeds go to charity

North China: Charity visit to a school for underprivileged children – spread the environmental care message

Philippines: Coastal clean-up of the Pawikan (Marine Turtles) Conservation Centre

Philippines: Charity visit to a kindergarten - donated educational toys and books from all colleagues

Singapore: Collected 2,870kg of waste paper from customers and vendors for recycling
