Hong Kong (China) Colleagues Participate in Online Storytelling Skill Training Workshop and Servicing Session

Storytelling is a fun and impactful learning experience for children to develop creativity and multiple skills. While schools and libraries were closed during the pandemic, our volunteer team in Hong Kong (China) partnered up with Bring Me A Book Hong Kong (BMABHK) – a non-profit organization dedicated to family literacy – to organize two online storytelling activities in April and May for OOCL volunteers and kids to stay connected.

An online storytelling skill training workshop was held in April to equip our volunteers with necessary techniques that lead to a good storytime session. It covers ways to get familiar with the text, as well as tips for delivering a virtual session.

In May, our online storytime session welcomed 15 children aged 4-8 from underprivileged and grassroots families. Our volunteers shared four short stories with colorful pictures that attracted the children's interest, who actively raised their hands to engage in the interaction.

After the event, each participating child was given a storybook as a gift to help them cultivate positive reading habits and behaviors.
