Hong Kong (China) Colleagues Help Elderly Clean Up for the Chinese New Year

To share the happiness of the Lunar New Year with the elderly and show them our care, our Hong Kong (China) colleagues and their family members and friends participated in a home cleaning activity to help out home-alone elderly to clean up for the Year of the Pig.

The event was organized by the Mong Kok Kai Fong Association Chan Hing Social Services Centre – an NGO which strives to serve the underprivileged in the community. Our volunteers first gathered at the event hall of the Centre to attend a briefing, together with over 200 participants from schools, government departments and other companies who volunteered in the same event. Participants learned about the proper  way of using various cleaning and painting tools, as well as things to be cautious about. After the briefing, volunteers gathered in groups of three or four and headed to the elders’ homes that they were assigned to.

Carrying heavy bags of cleaning and painting tools and protective gears, our volunteers spread into groups and departed to the elderlies’ homes. Following the elders’ wish list (i.e. what needed to be done in different parts of the house), volunteers rolled up their sleeves and helped to clean, paint gates and remove junk at the elders’ homes. While busy wiping off dirts, volunteers also took time to chit-chat with the seniors to engage with them. After almost 3 hours of cleaning and scrubbing, we presented a refreshing home to the elderly.
