Christening of OOCL France in Shanghai, China

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) celebrated the christening of OOCL France on June 29, 2001 in Shanghai, a post Panamax container vessel ordered by the company under a long-term charter agreement with the Hamburg, Germany-based company Nordcapital GmbH.

The sponsor, Ms. Isabelle Fernandez, Conseiller economique et commercial pres le Consulat general de France, christened OOCL France.

OOCL France was built by Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., Korea. The 5,500-teu container vessel is designed for a service speed of 25 knots and is classified with Germanischer Lloyd.

OOCL France is currently deployed in the China / Europe Express service, of the Grand Alliance’s Asia-Europe service. This loop provides a weekly service between the ports of Shanghai, Xiamen, Yantian, Hong Kong and Singapore in Asia with Southampton, Hamburg and Rotterdam in Europe.

Mr.C.L. Ting, Managing Director of OOCL (Asia Pacific) Ltd. said, “The European market, especially the French market, is very important to OOCL both with Asia and with North America. Naming this vessel OOCL France recognizes this importance and we are confident the commercial links between China and France will continue to strengthen and so enhance our logistics service to customers.”
